Israel - Part 1

The following are a very small portion of my photos of Israel. It was a very tiring, adventurous, wonderful, special trip.

A real oil lamp from the time of Christ (Herodian) and a real Widow's Mite. Found during excavations of the city.

Hezakiah's Tunnel has water flowing through it still! It flows from a natural spring outside the old city wall into the city to the Pool of Shilom through a tunnel carved out of rock underground. Amazing! And that is Tom for those who care to know. =o)

Our first evening there Jim Gee, our guide/host, took us through the Damascas Gate into the old city of Jerusalem. It is filled with little shops selling all sorts of stuff.

The oldest olive tree in the Garden of Gethsemane believed to be 2000 years old and could have possibly witnessed the Atonement.

Jericho.

This is the original opening to the tomb which has since been filled in. We entered the tomb from up above though a narrow staircase.

We had Sacrament Meeting at the Jerusalem Center on Saturday, the Sabbath day in Jerusalem. The city model is of the old Jerusalem when the Dome of the Rock was built.

Lunch at the Bedouin Tent "restaurant" after church.

In Bethlehem we visited a "cave" or rock dwelling that would have been similar to the place the shepherds would have been seeking shelter in the night Jesus was born.

This is the mural inside the local church depicting Christ's birth.

This is the "shepherds' field".

Excavations have revealed the original western wall of the temple mount from Herod's time. The huge rock there is the largest single stone and spanned the width of about 5 of us with our hands stretched out. It is now in a tunnel since back in the day they would just build on top of the rubble of the destroyed city.

Visiting the Temple Mount. The Wailing Wall. Views from the Temple Mount.

The Orson Hyde Memorial Park.

The Garden of Gethsemane behind the rock wall.

The Dome of the Rock on top of the Temple Mount.

The location of the Holy of Holies (the empty space in the courtyard.)

Free-standing arches on the Temple Mount.

The Upper Room.

The original stone path next to Caiaphas' Palace where Jesus walked.

Golgotha, Calvary, "the place of the skull".

The Garden Tomb confirmed to be the place of rest for Jesus' body after the crucifixion.

Thanks for taking me along on the tour. I feel as though I had been there with your stunning photos and chaperoning, of course. When do we get to meet your guide and cuddler? Hope it's not too long. I need to send some "stuff" with you to CO.
